Hamilton 981 help

New postby Tom Diss » Thu Oct 07, 2010 3:10 am

I've got a 0-size 981 that runs fine, but the shaft that the subsidiary second hand mounts to has snapped off. Can anyone recommend someone who can make the repair and since it would probably require disassembly, also service the watch? Thanks.

Tom:

I've been using the watch repair servicer below:

http://paulswatch.com/index.htm

I've had them service about 10 watches including Hamiltons and Elgins. Work has been 1st rate and cost reasonable. Most importantly, they seem to have a huge stockpile of vintage watch parts.

Hi Tom,
I can do the work for you, also. I've been repairing watches for about 3 years, and am currently a student at the NAWCC's school of Horology- I'm also a member of the NAWCC. Support a starving student and fellow NAWCC member!!! I've repaired watches for a few members of this board including John Arrowood and John Hodgson (Podge). I also advertise my services through eBay- username stderek.
Estimates are free.

Hi Tom

I can recommend Derek he has done work on a few of my American watches in the past ,
I contacted Derek initially because the Watchmaker I use in the UK was quoting me 4 months, ordering Watch parts etc, He would have had to send off to the US for the parts then do the Job, Derek gave me a quote and had the watch back to me within 7 weeks He Did a great job on it, and I am very pleased with the standard of work

Thanks for the kudos, John! :D 7 weeks is about the maximum, I can usually get them done in much less time.

I recommend Derek too, he got my Omega Constellation going again, and serviced two Accutron 214's for me. I foolishly dropped the Constellation on the garage floor and it's back with him, some dial markers came loose from the shock and jammed the hands. And he's working on another two RR 214's for men.
