Tips and techniques for taking the best possible pictures of your timepieces.

Competition Discussions / Comments.

New postby Stephan » Thu Aug 27, 2009 2:22 am

This is the thread where you can make comments or ask questions about pictures people have posted.
Perhaps you want to know how they got some special effect.
Perhaps you can tell them how to make the picture better.
Perhaps you just want to tell them what a great item they have.

Whatever your thoughts this is the place to put them.

Have fun.

Thanks for your picture John.
I like the effect of the mirror behind the watch.
Do you know who made the watch?

Sorry Stephan, on the dial plate there are no markings just the movement number. The movement is your typical Swiss ebauche.I use to use many kinds of back drops to take photos of watches, but have found simple is best, so now I use an old hemp bag with clear perspex on top to stop the fibres getting into the movement and I also use day light with a photo tent with all my photos.Sunset is best for gold cases and overcast days are best for silver cases.

Thanks Irwin. It is nice to see a watch and chain combination.
I have a bit of a soft spot for watch chains and try to get one for each of my watches.

Hello Charlie,
Love the train picture on your case.
Is it engraved into the metal or embossed (pressed) from the other side.

Stephen

I believe it is gold applied to the outside of a GF case. The inside of the case back shows no signs of it being embossed.

Thanks for the Picture Mike. It is not easy to get a good closeup of a watch movement.
It can also be very difficult to get the details of the engraving to show to advantage.

We have had a couple of last Minuit entries so I will extend the closing date till Friday 18
Still don't have a clock picture. Them blokes must be a bit shy.
Wrist watches are OK as well if someone wants to play.

Larry, A very nice watch. I have always admired those 2 tone cases but am yet to find one. One day perhaps.

Rod, It never ceases to amaze me what beautiful work our ancestors did with such primitive tools. Thanks for your picture.

Dave, great to see a clock picture. The only thing I will say about it is that I would be happy to mind it for you if you run out of space.

Larry I have been looking for one of those 163 watches in same two tone cases for a while. It seems everyone I came across has been more than I wanted to shell out.

Terry you can send me those cases ;) I will hold onto them for you and post good pics for you and even mention they used to belong to you or Mike.

You know I put up a couple pics of a watch only to receive a rude email from one of our members. I do not appreciate this and take it to heart. I know I am not the best photogapher but no need for this email. I wasnt going to say anything but it really bothers me when I was just having fun posting a watch like everyone else. I never have been rude to anyone on this site and never would be. I dont expect to be treated like this. Here is copy of what I got after posting my pics for the competition. I know I am not the best photographer but this was uncalled for.

Robert:

You did not do justice to that beautiful timepiece and case.

I would have loved the opportunity to just photograph the case and dial.
