Yeah Kevin,it's sad. He mailed them to his watchmaker,and when the box was opened there was nothing but an empty gift box and packaging.

I've had that happen to me - a corner of the box opened and the watches (more than one) fished out. It's always a good idea to double wrap/pack a consignment of multiple watches together before you seal the box, so that the bulk of the contents is too large for 'fishing'.

Maybe double boxing would be a way to go.
Pack the watches securely in a box then
put it in a larger box with packing material
separating the two boxes.
