Global Horology Message Board Guidance and Rules (Amended: March 7th, 2009)

By accessing “Global Horology Message Board” (hereinafter “we”, “us”, “our”, “Global Horology Message Board”, “”), you agree to be legally bound by the following terms. If you do not agree to be legally bound by all of the following terms then please do not access and/or use “Global Horology Message Board”. We may change these at any time and we’ll do our utmost in informing you, though it would be prudent to review this regularly yourself as your continued usage of “Global Horology Message Board” after changes mean you agree to be legally bound by these terms as they are updated and/or amended.

1. General Principles

1.1 You agree not to post any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-orientated or any other material that may violate any laws be it of your country, the country where “Global Horology Message Board” is hosted or International Law. Doing so may lead to you being immediately and permanently banned, with notification of your Internet Service Provider if deemed required by us. The IP address of all posts are recorded to aid in enforcing these conditions. You agree that “Global Horology Message Board” have the right to remove, edit, move or close any topic at any time should we see fit. As a user you agree to any information you have entered to being stored in a database. While this information will not be disclosed to any third party without your consent, neither “Global Horology Message Board” nor phpBB shall be held responsible for any hacking attempt that may lead to the data being compromised.

1.2 This message board is built on a culture of cooperation, conviviality and civility. It follows that all posts here should live up to the norms of that culture. In case there is any doubt as to what you may post or how you post it, please refer to the specific rules itemized in Section 2. For the purpose of interpreting these rules, a “post” includes anything posted on a forum topic or in any private message (PM) or e-mail originated by a member using the Global Horology message board system.

2. Specific Rules

2.1 Identifying posters

2.1.1 Notwithstanding any nickname/username that a member may use, all posts must show the real name of the poster, either in the username, signed in the body of the post, or shown in a signature file.

2.2 References to the past president of NAWCC Chapter 185

2.2.1 Notwithstanding the existence of previous posts on this message board, references to the past president of NAWCC Chapter 185 and discussions that feature his name are now prohibited. As an adjunct to this rule, should the name(s) of that person be posted on this message board, automatic word-substitution settings will replace the proscribed words with asterisks.

2.3 Respect, Civility and Personal Attacks

2.3.1 Posts that show disrespect for other posters and other members of the Global Horology Message board are not allowed. This message board has a wide, global membership and members must not be patronized or mocked for their lack of knowledge or for their personal opinions. The rule here is to reply to any ignorant, erroneous or contentious post with civility and tact.

2.3.2 Posts that include a personal attack are not allowed. This includes any kind of ‘flame’, insult, threat, hateful, vulgar or disparaging comment, or comment that proliferates or resurrects acrimony or bickering between posters. It is especially useful to remember this rule when the topic under discussion becomes argumentative, contentious or heated.

2.4 Links

2.4.1 Links in signatures or signature files to other websites are not allowed unless the sites linked to provide a reciprocal link to the Global Horology Message Board.

2.4.2 Links that do not provide general access to another website without registration are not allowed.

2..4.3 Links that appear to be posted as a form of advertising are not allowed unless relevant to the discussion in process and can be considered useful for our members.

2.5 Use of capital letters or large-size text

2.5.1 Posters should not use all-capital letters or large-size letters in any part of a post unless it is appropriate for the context of the discussion. This generally means that all messages, including topic titles, should use the normal mixture of upper-and lower-case characters as seen in normal correspondence.

2.6 Subject headings for forum topics

2.6.1 Posters are not allowed to change the subject of a topic in which they post a reply. Such changes cause confusion in the message notification system and compromise the integrity of the topic. If you feel inclined to change the subject of a topic, please consider starting a new topic.

2.7 Quoting

2.7.1 Quoting of other messages should not use up page-space on the topic unnecessarily. Posters should not include any part of a quote that is not directly related to the reply, or any image that already appears in the topic.

2.8 Moderator activity

2.8.1 Where moderator activity takes place in the enforcement of these rules, the poster will be notified. If a poster comes to the constant attention of the moderators, he/she may be placed on “post moderation”, which means that any post from that member will be placed in a queue and must be approved or edited before it can appear on the message board forums. For the purposes of interpreting this rule, the moving of topics from one forum to another, renaming of topics and other “housekeeping” actions should not be seen as “moderator activity” and will not be notified.

2.8.2 A moderator may place a member on “post moderation” for a period of seven days, or longer, if the sanction is not appealed. Sanctions of more than seven days should be ratified, initially, by the extended Moderator Group and then by the Message Board administration.

2.8.3 Posts containing argument or discussion concerning specific instances of housekeeping or moderator action are not allowed in the forum topics.

2.8.4. Members may appeal any perceived misapplication of these rules or any sanction by private message (PM) to a Global Moderator or the wider Moderator Group, initially, and then to the Message Board administration, where they will be afforded due process and a fair hearing. The list of Global Moderators is shown on “The team” page linked at the bottom of the Board Index, and here:
