This crazy watch is a 1968 "Old England" which was a Mod brand once worn by such luminaries as Princess Anne and Mick Jagger. Other than the electric orange dial with green bezel, they also came with shocking pink/metallic blue, flourescent green/ blue or zing yellow/mauve according to an article I found in the August '68 American Horologist & Jeweler. The watch sits high on your wrist like a flying saucer.
The third pic is the watch on my son Addison's wrist who I gave the watch to last night because it goes so well with the maroon paisley silk jacket he had on. The event was the opening of an exhibit to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Monterey Pop Festival where Janis, Jimi, and many other legends performed. The show was Addi's first curatorial outing. He is the asst. curator of the Museum of Monterey. It was a fun night!

I found this one at the Drawbridge Regional on Friday. I had been interested in these movements for a while and this one was a very good buy compared to some I have kept track on Ebay and it's keeping very good time. It's a Swissonic with Elgin on the dial, probably marketed by someone who owned the Elgin name at the time--early 1970's I think. I suspect it has an ESA 9154 movement in it, electronic with a balance wheel. The bezel is base metal and the caseback is stainless. Since there's a battery hatch in the back I haven't looked at the movement; I'm afraid of what I might damage.

Here's a recent purchase; Bulova Ambassador M6 date code, 14k gf with matching bracelet. This one has the micro-rotor self-winding movement and the case including the crystal is less than 3/8" thick, quite thin for an automatic. There's no second hand which allows it to be a bit thinner.

Here's another Swissonic I got recently. This one is marked Waltham Electrodyne with Swissonic and Incabloc on the bottom of the dial. Base metal bezel with a stainless back. The battery hatch is a snap in/out where the yellow one I posted earlier has a screw out hatch. The battery hatch cover has the even numbers 2 through 12 on it and there's a triangular mark on the back near the hatch. Does anyone know the purpose of the markings?

John,

I may be wrong but I have seen those marking before on the battery covers of those electronic watches. I figured it had something to do with keeping track of the month when the battery was replaced.

That's a logical explanation. I hadn't thought of that; I was thinking 12 hours but it must be 12 months.

Here's the watch-of-the day. Hamilton Secometer C, 14k case, 18-j 748 movement. I don't know if the black dial was an option when the watch was new or if it is a refinish. Whatever it is it looks very good.

This is the second Lexon I have bought in the last little while. The first one came with some watch parts and tools I bought from a retired watchmaker. The first one kept fantastic time but the function buttons did not work. When I saw the second one on eBay I just had to have it. I like the chronometer style of this model. It is stainless steel in the case and band. I was surprised at the quality of the quartz movement when I replaced the battery in the first watch.
