Early Ball - Hamilton Superior Grade Ser. No. 608

New postby pocketwatchdog1 » Thu Jan 31, 2008 12:46 am

Here is the pinnacle piece in my collection, an 18 size Ball Hamilton serial number 608 in a Jeannot & Shiebler 14K rose gold case, marked Webb C. Ball. This watch was on display at the 2006 Ward Francillon Time Symposium.
ENJOY!
Cheers!
Joel :)

Wonderful watch Joel and a real piece of Ball and Hamilton history there!

15 made in this first run ... I wonder how many (if any) among these are still out there yet to be "discovered"?

Absolutely wonderful Joel!

It would be a pinnacle piece in my collection too but alas, I have nothing but a hole there! :(

Joel,
That is so early it would be considered a private label. It is certainly RARE and a watch to be proud of. I have a 16s Ball in the same J&S case marked Webb C. Ball serial No. 50,204.
Thanks

Great watch Joel,

Including yours, I've recorded 4-5 actual serial numbers from this first run of 15 936's. A few numbers from a second run of 45 936's (8601-8645) with the same dial/movement markings have also been recorded.

In addition to the grade 936's, it is also known that atleast 5 937's were also produced with the same pattern and markings. To the best of my knowledge, only one of these watches has surfaced to date.

Joel,

This would be the pinnacle piece of many collections. Perhaps someday I might find something similar to highlight my own, but for now, like most others I just have a hole there. :(

Great watch!

Joel,

The more I look at this watch, the more I envy you! I believe there are only 4 known examples surviving from this run of 15-25. I think Columbia has 601, Jeff has 603, and I don't know who has 611.

It boggles the mind, only 3 in circulation! That is one of the reasons I track the quantity of known examples of earlier Ball's. When one realizes that the market is so thin for them, it makes their current "values" seem ridiculously reasonable.

Yours is truly a jewel and a treasure! May you enjoy it for many years and keep it safe for its next caretaker!

Best regards, happy hunting,

you lucky so and so.
