So what were your spring finds this year ?

New postby perby » Tue Jul 17, 2018 3:22 pm

Well it is that time of year again when the posts get a little thin, as they do on all sites due to vacations, the weather, just the lazy hazy days of summer.
What were your finds this spring either clocks, watches, or anything horologically related ?
My watch purchases were a little thin this spring, and you've seen my clocks on another post, so what did you get ?

I had a very good spring for finds, both complete watches and other goodies.

I found a 12-size Waltham bridge movement on eBay, buried in a movement assortment. It needed a new 4th wheel arbor and proper hour wheel under the dial, but came out nicely.

I also found a beautiful 12-ligne private-label Vacheron & Constantin ladies watch on eBay for a little more than gold value (well, a lot more than gold value today, but still a great deal for a beautiful V&C).

... and I won this special 10-size Waltham at a Jones & Horan auction.

I was also very happy to find some nice ephemera - vintage Waltham material catalog (1909) and watch catalogs from 1912 to 1919.

The last few months have been pretty dry, but hey, I live in California in the midst of a drought.

Picked up a 16 size 23 jewel open face Riverside Maximus marked "Non Magnetic". From what I can tell it is from a single run of 50 with the "Non Magnetic" hairspring and marking, 14,049,351 - 14,049,400. Diamond end stones on the balance and escape, gold train, gold balance screws and gold jewel settings add to the almost blinding movement.

Great finds, and beautiful watches.
I am off on holidays this week, and hope to find some treasures over the next few weeks of travel.
