I found this really nice clock this summer. Also found out i lucked out on the price, its worth much more than i paid for it. Has a 85 A movement time and strike, dead beat escapement, not sure on number of teeth of escape wheel. Dial was replaced, but looks awesome, its walnut and 36 inches long.

Kevin,

Nice looking piece.

You mention you think it has a replacement dial. I have a Gilbert clock with what I think is a replacement dial. It has a an unknown (to me) stylized logo CSJ with the letters overlapping each other just inside the 6 o'clock. I can't tell in your picture but It almost looks like your dial has a marking like that?

The logo could be that of the E. & J. Swigart Company of Cincinnati, OH. They were a supplier of watch and clock material (including paper replacement dials for clocks) and published the "Illustrated Manual of American Watch Movements". The book was reprinted by SLaRose years ago.

John,

I believe you nailed it and solved my mystery! Thank you much! EJS (E. & J. Swigart Company) not what I stated above! Your info allowed me to find reference for the company to the trademark elsewhere so am guessing you are 100% right. I am wondering if this is the mark on Kevin's clock as well.

Kevin, I apologize in advance if it turns out I have hi-jacked your thread. Glyn may have to do housekeeping if it turns out this isn't the mark on your dial.
