Too vague to understand. What are you offering? What is the future?

Not enough members and posts to be profitable, so it's just a labor of love.

I can offer to donate cash if that helps. My time is so limited now. I wish I could do more. This place introduced a lot of men to horology,it also kept a lot of men going. Me included.

It has never been about profit. It is supposed to be about FUN !!!!!!!!!

Least wise that is how I view it.

Hi, folks,

Stephan considered taking over the message board but then thought better of it, so it's a big Thank You to him for offering some kind of rescue.

Thank you to all who have contributed - especially the stalwart members who kept their posts coming in. Without posts, a message board such as this cannot survive.

The board is likely to close down tomorrow (17th January). If anyone wants to share responsibility for this GH message board, you had better make me an offer in the next few hours or it will be Goodbye and Thank You to all.

Glyn,

I am sorry to hear that this place is closing. It was always a great place to post my projects and for a period of time the camaraderie was great. Thank you much for the time we had.

On a side note; What will happen to all the content? Is there a chance we could get a few days to copy some of our own content off that we wish not to lose?

Thanks again for your efforts.

Phil

Today is the last day, Phil. Not sure exactly when Godaddy will pull the plug.

Is there any way to transfer this board to a free server?? I think that Sam Kirk did that with his board?

I don't know much about computer technology, of maybe transferring to a chip or a cd?

Too much educational info to throw away.

What the message board needed was for a member or members to share in the running of it. Not just one person to run it alone, and not people just sending money to help pay for the domain/hosting, etc. The posts and financial contributions have kept us going for the last few years but I was hoping that a member or members would come forward to share the responsibility of running the board. It's really that simple.

Jim said it...What a waste-what a wasted opportunity for someone also. Maybe a new guy even. Everything is here already.

Do people who have enjoyed being members here not think that it's worth a few bucks and a few hours of their time to share the responsibility of running this message board? As Marty points out: Everything is here already.

I work full time, but i know many are retired or semi retired, maybe someone could take it over as a hobby. It was a great web site but unfortunately not enough participation.I will be sorry as well to see it gone.

If someone is interested I think the following would be worth a try.
I believe the notion of a site dedicated to watches is becoming hard to sustain.
The hobby is in decline and traffic on other similar sites demonstrates that.
Even the NAWCC.

However there appears to be growing interest in what I would call off topic conversations.
You need only look at how popular the blogs have been.

People like to socialize and share things and ask for advice and support. That's why facebook works.

So

Perhaps a bit of a shift from a watch site that has several off topic threads to a more general site ( name needed here ) that contains some special interest areas like watches might breath a bit of new life into the place. New life creates new members and more hands on deck to share the load.

It's not a re invention. More a shift in emphasis to accommodate a broader group of people.

Just thinking out loud here. Even a bad idea is better than silence because it might lead to a better one.
