Ball Automatic 17j

New postby Charlie Sides » Thu Apr 16, 2009 12:35 am

My watchmaker has this one. I have had several 21j and 25j trainmasters, but I have never seen one of these before. Told him I would see what you guys say...other than the dial needs a re-do.

He usually sells these things if anyone is interested.
Numerals look like applied gold ???
Anybody notice something missing?

I knew there was a great joke in there somewhere Glyn, thanks for the laugh.

I am standing there looking at this movement for the first time, and read Ball COM ANY. There's no .com and why would they put ANY on a watch. I musta read it 3 or 4 times before figuring it out.

John,

Do you know approx when these were made - earlier/later than the trainmasters ???

Also, would this one be worth having the dial redone - approx $40-$50

Sorry, I have no idea of when these were made, but based on the shape and size they look like mid-1950 watches to me. Can't say about the value.

This movement was introduced in 1956, I believe. Just very poor QC is why the engraving is missing. I also believe that Jeff Hess is the one that Revived the brand here in the US. Good luck getting parts for them, though.
