Hypocritical Policy of Non-Members using the Auction site

New postby pocwatjim » Sat Aug 14, 2010 5:30 pm

I started a topic on the NAWCC site

"Hypocritical Policy of Non-Members using the Auction site."

http://mb.nawcc.org/showthread.php?t=65119

Some may want to add your ideas to it.

I dont see a problem with the 4 sale site being open to the public.I dont think it can hurt anyone and perhaps bring in more members. They cant sell they can only buy.
All and any exposure to the NAWCC can,t be a bad thing in my book.
The link works for me.

Hi, folks,

The link does not work if you are not registered as an NAWCC member on the NAWCC message board.

A parallel discussion here would be redundant. If any NAWCC member wants to join the debate, please post there, at the link that Jim has posted, not here.

Glyn,

I would think you, of all people, would be interested in this topic. You have tried auctions here and John Moane set up a nice auction board ,to no avail.

The double standard is that the NAWCC wants to invite the public in to their web site for auctions and will not let the public bid on auctions at NAWCC meetings, marts, regional's etc., without joining the National organization.

This makes it difficult for the Chapters to keep members because members have to join the National to be Chapter members.

We have discussed this in the archives at length. I can't find it anymore?

Certainly, I'm interested in the topic, Jim, which is why I clicked your link and read the discussion. However, If you want to have a discussion here, you will not get balance, since the policy makers at NAWCC have long since stopped visiting this message board.

GH serves wider interests than those of the NAWCC; many members here are not in any horological association. I'm suggesting that if anyone wants to contribute to the discussion, they should click your link and post there, rather than here.

If you think it's in GH members' interests to have a parallel discussion here, then please post. :)

Any GH member who is a Member of Chapter 192 has access to all the discussions that were held in that forum. Nothing has been removed or edited.

I was a member of NAWCC for many years but dropped my membership, not for any political or rule opposition, only that I did not see the value in maintaining my membership. There is a local Atlanta chapter but since that means joining the NAWCC again I said "punt it", it's 4th and long in this current economic condition and would rather spend my money on watches. I post on three watch sites and wish there was more traffic on this site since I like the set up better than the others. If you like "brand X" go to that forum, "brand Y" go there, not sure what you like, "Do you feel lucky" take a pick and go there. On the Elgin forum there is even a nice sub-class BWR grades so you can post pictures and comment which makes for seeing what is right and what is wrong if you are looking to buy a watch very easy.

I have posted on this topic on the green board but from a slightly different perspective.
I believe it is a good thing to allow the sales site to sell to the public.
But I also believe that it logically follows that if Head office can do such things then the chapters should have the same rights.
They need support and new members as well.
It is not fair for Head office to do that which they have forbidden the chapters to do.
The rules should be changed to reflect the current state of play.
Learning all the time.

I have been away from the hobby, and this message board, for quite some time. I just received the NAWCC email poll concerning Ch 192, which triggered my reaction to jump on-line.

This "hypocritical" post has not just been moved, it has been removed. I was going to post my opinion about the policy of refusal to allow the public at chapter meetings, and the post is no longer accessible. :|

Hi Ted,
Welcome back. It was moved to the members only area on the NAWCC board and if your dues are current you won't have any problem viewing it.
