Arbor (In French: arbre)

A synonym of axle. A toothed wheel is fixed to the arbor, which is usually cylindrical, and both revolve. In many clocks, the mainspring is coiled around an arbor and is hooked to it. As the arbor is turned, the spring is wound up. The force of the coiled spring then turns the arbor the other way to power the movement.
